Irish weekend

Four years ago on Irish Weekend Brian left a bar in Philly and drove down to Wildwood to meet up with me. By the time he got there the bar was about to close in an hour. He met the JJ's and the Camarote's, had a drink, drove me back to my parents house, and drove back up to Marlton. Who would've thought that fast-forwarding to this year we'd be attending the festival as parents of twins.

Organized independence

Yesterday was a great day. The boys and I did it....we ran errands together! I woke up and decided that I had things to do but didn't want to feel like I needed help to accomplish those things. So, I gave the boys a bath and after they ate we headed out. We went to the post office, the dry cleaner, returned some things at the Promenade, and shopped at Target. It was fantastic. I'm feeling like myself again. I'm checking things off my check-list and the boys were along for the ride with me. I've found that their stroller also functions as a shopping cart. It has a very large basket on the bottom so I was able to shop around Target with ease. They slept most of the time so it was very helpful. As usual I had to stop and chit-chat with many people about "the twins" but I didn't mind because I was out of the house. I've also found that having multiples automatically puts you into "the club." Other Mom's that have multiples will come up to you and talk with you as if you have been friends forever. One Mom saw me in the parking lot, smiled, and said "I have those....congrats and good luck." I thought that was cute because as she walked to the store you could see the look in her eyes that she was happy to be shopping alone but also wished her twins were with her. Being a Mom of twins is definitely trying at times and those times you really want to just cry while someone else takes care of them but I'd have to say that MOST of the time you are just so extremely happy and feel so blessed. I'm so happy that God blessed me with organizational skills and that my Mom taught me independence.....because without those skills I'm not quite sure how I'd get through every day.

Yup, we are Philadelphia fans...

1st time in a restaurant

Yesterday was the boys first time in a regular restaurant. We were out and about and Brian and I really wanted to go to Iron Hill. We decided to brave it and thought that if they started to cry we'd leave right away. We sat in the bar area so that we could watch WVU playing while we ate. We got a booth so that we could each put a carseat in the booth next to us. The boys did great! They mostly slept, with a few small cries every so often. Luckily the atmosphere there was such that no one could really hear the boys, so we were safe. Our server was very impressed by how good they were the whole time we were there. Yup, that's right...we have well behaved children. LOL! Ok, I probably just jinxed myself and they will be nightmares from here on out....uh oh!

"It's the most wonderful time of the year..."

Sure it's a Christmas song but when Fall arrives I sing those lyrics in my head all the time. Today we had the first sign that it's just around the corner. The hot summer sun rays got less bright and the air got about 20 degrees cooler. When you walk outside you feel the briskness that I crave all year. I finally turned off the air conditioner, opened the windows and smiled. I decided that I had to get the boys outside to enjoy the day. I called Mom and she was at Target so I told her I'd meet her there. I packed the diaper bag, put the boys hoodies on, and got in the car with the windows down. We also went to the Promenade and strolled the stores there. When the boys weren't sleeping they were staring at the ceiling lights in all the different stores. We are home now and I'm sitting on the couch with my "autumn wreath" candle burning and I'm lovin' it. Sept, Oct, and Nov are great! There is great weather, beautiful colors, apple cider, pumpkin pie, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the 1st crackle in the fireplace, 3 sports teams to watch (Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers), sweatshirts, blankets to lay under while the windows are open, spiced candles, and mums. Boy, I sure do hope that the boys love this time of year as much as I do!

1st time in a public place

The Dr. gave us the "ok" to take the boys in public places so today we did just that. We went to BuyBuyBaby, Panera Bread, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Home Depot. While at Panera we sat on a bench outside and gave them their bottles. It was an awesome day! It felt so liberating to go into a store with them. We got many "awe, look at the twins," "how old are they?," "are they twins?," etc.. Everyone respected us and didn't touch them except for one lady in Best Buy. She touched Gavin's hand and I immediately cringed. I was polite to her and as soon as she walked away I wiped his hand with anti-bacterial gel. (I was shocked that she even touched him because these days people generally know that it's a "no-no" to touch other people's children.) We did have so much fun today! The boys did great.....they really enjoyed the fresh air.

2 month Dr. appt

Well we know they are identical but after today's 2 month (yes, they are 2 months already) Dr. appt we learned even more how identical they are. They are both exactly 9 lbs 4 oz, both of their heads are the same size, they have the same dry patch on their foreheads, and they both handled their shots the same way. The only difference is that Evan is 1/2 inch taller than Gavin. The Dr. is very happy with how they are doing. He's impressed that they don't need to be rocked to sleep, that they only wake up one time a night, and that they've grown the way they have. He took them off the formula made for preemies and put them on regular formula. They each got 3 shots today and one medicine orally. They actually liked the oral meds because they were sucking it down. The shots however went as you would expect....they screamed. However, according to the nurse, they handled it very well because their cries weren't too long. They needed to be held and cuddled a bit after but all in all they were 2 brave little boys. I'm so proud of our little men!
